Allergies, Asthma:
The treatment of allergies through acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine focuses on removing pathogens in the system, primarily heat and phlegm, and reducing the exaggerated immune response to normal stimuli, which produces many of the allergy symptoms. Allergic responses occur when the body abnormally responds to normal stimuli such as dust, mold, or foods. The body starts an inflammatory process involving the release of histamines. This creates inflammation and excessive mucous production. Acupuncture decreases inflammation and mucous production, and helps to retrain the body to respond normally to allergens. Acupuncture will also reduce the common symptoms of allergies, runny nose, sneezing, dry, itchy, red eyes, sore throat, skin reactions. Acupuncture will retraining the body's immune system, eliminate phlegm producing foods, and by adding herbal formulas and vitamin supplements, the symptoms are eased and eventually eliminated. This process takes at least 10-20 treatments and maintenance during high allergy seasons is also required.
